The phone call’s not a huge surprise - Matt and Guillaume grew up together, and he’s big on keeping in touch with friends whenever he can.  It’s not uncommon for him to phone a friend out of the blue; in fact, a mutual friend brought me along to watch Matthieu rehearse for a charity event in 2011 after a message from him. Durring the rehearsal/sound check, he performed a beautiful accoustic version of “Un Monstre a Paris” and an instrumental version of “Hey Joe” by Jimi Hendrix that made it into the show as accompanyment for a tightrope walker.

Yep, the song is “It’s Alright”, and it’s a cover. I’m trying to find the original version, which is more difficult that expected because there are a lot of songs with that title. I’m glad he’s feeling more comfortable singing and speaking in English in public. 

Update: So far, the most likely candidate is a song by Bo Diddley that’s been covered by the Rolling Stones and the Spacemen3 amongst others. The search contines! :)

BEST INTRO EVER!

That was an awesome tour - and the guitar (Tanagra) was definitely ahead of its time. Matt had a few technical problems with it toward the end of the tour (the London shows that had to be rescheduled for early 2011, for example), and I hope he gets them straightened out so he can play that guitar again.

It’s also interesting to look at the dynamics of the band in this video in comparison to Matt’s current “power trio”. “Les saisons de passage” (“The passing seasons”) tour as shown in this video was more theatrical - there was a sign outside the venue they performed at in late November of 2009 in Grenoble, France that referred to it as a “Bollywood Spectical”… and that was accurate. Tournée 2013-2014 has a different vibe: where “Les saisons de passage” was sort of an apprenticeship for the majority of his band (specifically Anna and Jojo, although Elise also received a lot of public recognition as a result), Tournée 2013-2014 boils down to three guys playing a kick-ass concert and having a lot of fun in the process. 

And no matter how he presents it, seeing Matthieu in concert is ALWAYS worth the price of admission. ~_^

I love the way Matt interacts with the kids, it’s absolutely adorable.  And the Mini Mojos have a lot of tallenet even at that young age. :)
